A lot has been said about the new design so an explanation is in order. It will all be briefly covered again right here. The entire concept of the design was based on a segment of chain that goes around the wrist, forming a bracelet. If you take three of these segments and connect them together, you have a length long enough to be used as a necklace. How's that for simplicity? Of course, once the idea is developed, then a patent application is filed. But how does it actually form a bracelet? The answer is simple and made up of two parts: first, replace the clasp with a toggle instead of a 'lobster claw' clasp. The difference is that the toggle slips through the round retainer on the end of the chain and stays in place. The second part is the introduction of rings connecting the segments of the chain that form the necklace. Please see the picture below: The necklace is made up of three segments of chain and these segments are joined together with rings that are big enough for the toggle to slip through. Each chain segment is long enough to fit around the wrist like a bracelet if worn on its own. If the first segment of the chain with the toggle on the end is wrapped around the wrist, the toggle can be slipped through the first ring, you now have the beginning of a bracelet. Now wrap the rest of the chain around the wrist until the toggle can be slipped through the second ring, reverse the chain, wrap the wrist one more time and slip the toggle through the clasp. Notice that this necklace/bracelet has three charms (special order) attached and these are located on the middle chain segment so they are centered when worn as a necklace. Now you have a bracelet, made up of three wraps, that is held at the right length by the toggle going through each of the rings. Since each wrap is held in place, one wrap can't become longer than the others and fall off. Then by reversing the process, the bracelet can be removed and worn again as a necklace. |
The nice thing is that you can order a CYM Jewelry Neckalce/Bracelet for yourself and there are even styles to choose from. Plus, you can customize your Necklace with charms and variations. First, consider the style. While in some cases, heavy link jewelry makes a statement, it is also uncomfortable and restricted in how it can be worn. On the flip side, if the chain used in the jewelry is too fine, it becomes difficult to handle and subject to being broken. The chains that have been selected fall into that category of 'not too big and not too small'. Add to that the size of the joining rings needing to fit in while still being large enough to handle the toggle easily (to insure being able to put it on quickly and then, when you change your mind, take it off just as fast). All of these simple issues have been considered and the selections carefully made. But, if you want customization, we will do what we can. Lastly, just brief word about quality. Each necklace/bracelet is assembled by hand using parts that are made up of sterling silver. While costume jewelry is pretty, sterling silver jewelry is made to last. |

Lastly, a little history might be meaningful. The idea for the CYM Jewelry was the result of watching my sister in law struggle with a necklace during the night. She was tired of wearing it and wanted to keep wearing it but it kept shifting and falling off. The idea took a couple of tries to come together into CYM Jewelry and the choices made for the chain, the rings and the toggle clasp are a result of various comments from people that have tested out the combinations. |
